We’ve all heard the rags-to-riches stories of some of the world’s most successful people. But what’s their secret, and can we learn from them in order to get ahead ourselves?

1. Read like Warren Buffett
According to self-made billionaire Warren Buffett, one of the keys to success is to read and learn as much as you can. While business classics, biographies and self-help books are Mr Buffett’s go-tos, studies show that losing yourself for half an hour a day in a great novel can also boost your creativity and career. So, get to your nearest library, pronto!

2. Work out like Richard Branson
Since exercise is widely known to help reduce stress and clear your head, it’s a hugely important part of many people’s routines. Billionaire and owner of Virgin, Richard Branson, wakes up at 5am every day to play tennis or cycle – a habit which he claims doubles his productivity!

3. Volunteer like George Clooney
In general, hugely successful people like to give back. One person who springs to mind is Oceans trilogy leading man George Clooney, who supports over 30 different charities and has done extensive volunteer work in Sudan. Behaving graciously, giving back when you can, and supporting others is a great way to clear your mind and ground yourself – an essential part of leading a successful life.

4. Get a good breakfast like John Mackey
For the founder and CEO of Whole Foods Market, eating healthy is kind of par for the course. Mr Mackey swears by super smoothies first thing, including ingredients like kale, spinach and soy to kickstart the mind and body at the start of the day. Pass us that blender!

5. Live humbly like Mark Zuckerberg
Even if you’re making lots of money, try to take a leaf out of the Facebook founder’s book and live as simply and humbly as possible. Mr Zuckerberg focuses on growing his company instead of splurging on mega-expensive houses and cars. Don’t get us wrong – he certainly lives an enviable life. But the $7 million he spent on his San Francisco home seems like pocket change compared to Kanye and Kim’s $20 million home or Oprah’s whopping $165 million home…

6. Rise and shine like Larry Page
Google’s co-founder Larry Page swears by rising early to make the most out of the day. He said, “If you’re changing the world, you’re working on important things. You’re excited to get up in the morning.” So, there you have it – the key to making it big is throwing off the duvet a little earlier than usual… if only it were that simple!
