Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are being warned they could be left without an internet connection, if they haven’t taken the steps needed to switch over to BT’s new network by the end of March.
The communications giant is turning off its old broadband service completely on September 30th and will start withdrawing products from March 31st.
BT is making the move as part of its roll-out of superfast internet via its 21st Century Next Generation Network (21CN), which is now available to 95 per cent of businesses and homes in the UK.
Tony Tugulu, director of managed networks at internet service provider Timico, said: “This switch-off will have catastrophic consequences for businesses who are unprepared for the migration to 21CN.”
He warned that SMEs unaware of the change could be hit with an increase in prices or “severe business disruption”.
Timico also revealed around one in ten firms are currently at risk of being affected when the deadline arrives, with the transition to 21CN having started in October last year.
