SMEs 'need EU regulation help'

Growing a business in the current economic climate is always going to be tough.

Many firms are struggling to attract new trade, while additional finance from banks is proving to be very hard to come by, despite the introduction of government incentives.

This is why small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular need support if they are going to be able to grow and hire new workers.

John Walker, national chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses, noted the burden of regulation from the EU falls disproportionately on the smallest firms.

He is calling on the government and the EU to do everything in their power to provide an environment whereby companies are able to develop.

I’ve always been an advocate of SMEs and I agree with Mr Walker. Unless action is taken to cut the red tape emanating from Europe, companies will continue to struggle to attract enough business.
