Businesses in Portsmouth and Southampton are set to benefit from almost £1 billion of government investment in the region, it was announced today (November 12th).
In total, it’s hoped that the £953 million being provided by the City Deal will result in the creation of around 17,000 jobs in the area
Part of the project will see a new Solent Jobs Pilot set up, with £5.8 million earmarked for it to help around 1,000 people who have previously been classed as “very long-term unemployed” get back into work.
£10 million will also be used to directly benefit small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) achieve future growth.
Deputy prime minister Nick Clegg said: “The deal will help to create thousands of vital new jobs in the region, and every effort is being made, both in government and at a local level, to help the local area through a time of uncertainty.”
