Government plans to help businesses export

House-of-Parliament

The UK government is hoping to encourage more mid-sized businesses to export, by offering each company tailored trade advice on how to get started.

Trade minister Lord Livingstone revealed the plans today (January  22nd), after research found that firms tend to do better in offering their services or products to a foreign market when they are supported by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI).

The study claims that mid-size enterprises could increase sales by £1.8 million on average if they took UKTI’s advice and Lord Livingstone is now personally corresponding with 8,900 businesses to ask if they would like some help.

Alexander Ehmann, deputy director of policy at the Institute of Directors said: “Doing business abroad will always involve risk, particularly in developing markets, so companies want to have as much information as possible before diving in.”

Do you need help exporting out of the UK? Should the plans include smaller businesses as well?
