FSB wants stronger backing for independent retailers

Is your business on the local high street? If so, you might agree with other independent retailers who think their town centre is performing “poorly”.

And according to The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), many of you are calling for closer ties with local authorities to boost spending and get your area back to its best, Fresh Business Thinking reports.

As a result, the FSB is urging local decision-makers to have closer relationships with small firms, as 70 per cent of independent retailers interviewed by the organisation believe that having a better link is the key to boosting the high street.

Mike Cherry, national policy chairman at the FSB, said that reviving town centres from decline is possible, but the right measures must be in place.

“We want improved dialogue and cooperation between independent retailers and their local decision-makers, so they can work jointly on improving their town centres,” he said.

One thing the FSB suggests authorities do is to support a Local Business Week, where they encourage shoppers to buy at least three things from independent retailers in their area. It may not seem like much, but every little helps so let’s back our high street businesses.
