Extra help at hand for Liverpool manufacturing

Manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Liverpool are set to benefit from a new support and policy body in the city.

The Merseyside Manufacturing Council (MMC) will meet for the first time next month after being born out of a partnership between the city’s chamber of commerce and private sector funding and development specialist the UK Manufacturing Accelerator.

The Liverpool chamber’s chief operating officer Jenny Stewart said: “Manufacturing is a key sector within our local industrial base and Chamber membership.”

She also added the MMC is an “ideal” way to generate “innovation, progress and action”.

The chamber says latest stats show 8.6 per cent of Liverpool’s workforce is based in manufacturing, compared to a national average of six per cent.

The UK Manufacturing Accelerator was set up earlier this year, and describes itself as “bringing together a core team of successful manufacturers and seasoned corporate finance experts”.
