If start-ups are to be successful in the current economic situation, then they need help from the government.
A reduction in red tape and changes to the tax system will feature highly on the wish list of many firms, especially those looking to grow on a budget.
Personally, I think those in power should be going out of their way to make sure companies are given a fighting chance to be successful.
That’s why it is disappointing to see that Margaret Hodge, the chairwoman of the Public Accounts Committee, has said that new tax laws have been heavily influenced by major corporations and accountancy firms.
Ms Hodge added working groups set up last year to look at tax reforms were dominated by people who had something to gain.
It would be good if, moving forward, the tax system could be changed so it helps out smaller firms looking to grow.
