One year on and Olympics fever is still gripping the nation, as figures show small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are positive about the effect the games had on growth.
AXA Business Insurance research shows that 15 per cent of SMEs believe the 2012 London Olympics had a good effect on sales, this is compared to ten per cent polled before the games who said they may be lucrative.
On top of this, a further 13 per cent of firms said they had experienced a benefit both before and after the London Olympics finished, with another two per cent still reaping the rewards today – this marks a combined total of 30 per cent of businesses enjoying positive results.
Gordon Rutherford, head of marketing and e-commerce at AXA Business Insurance, said the feedback was “great to see”.
“We hope that the Olympic effect coupled with the general optimism that we know is abundant among the SME community at the moment means the growth of small businesses in the UK can continue to thrive and provide the bedrock for the UK economy,” he added.
