There has been a lot of talk about mobile working and how it is becoming an increasingly attractive option for businesses.
With the development of bring your own device (BYOD), it represents a cost-effective way for firms to promote flexible working strategies, which should ultimately boost productivity among staff.
According to the International Data Corporation’s (IDC’s) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, some 219.4 million smartphones were shipped in the final quarter of 2012, which represents 45.5 per cent of all mobile phones.
This is the highest ever percentage and highlights how these devices are becoming the defacto choice of many.
Kevin Restivo, senior research analyst with IDC, said: “Vendors with unique market advantages, such as lower-cost devices, can rapidly gain market share, especially in emerging markets.”
As more and more people buy smartphones, savvy firms should look to take advantage of this, as it is a great way for them to stay in touch with the office.
