In the latest show of confidence for the next 12 months of trading, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has said that it expects 2014 to see firms expand their workforces and invest more capital.

The organisation has revealed its final Small Business Index of 2013, highlighting that optimism among companies has increased again year-on year-for the final quarter.

“Confidence has been in positive territory for a full year, giving economic growth solid foundations moving into 2014. Small firms are creating more jobs and investing in their business and there are encouraging results behind the headline figures,” said John Allan, the FSB’s national chairman.

Mr Allan added that the government still had a part to play though, noting that the Autumn Statement’s business rates announcement was a “helpful initiative”, while the refocus of the Funding for Lending scheme should also make a difference in the new year.

With 2014 almost upon us, do you feel the same way?
